How the VA Rates IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)

The 2024 revision made every diagnosed, symptomatic IBS case compensable — the old 0% level is gone. Frequency of pain days is the whole game. IBS is also a Gulf War presumptive as a functional gastrointestinal disorder for eligible veterans.

Evidence That Wins This Claim

  • Log pain days per week and the associated changes — frequency sets the tier.
  • Gulf War era? IBS may be presumptive — no nexus needed.
